How to Investigate a Missing Indeed Job

Determine why a job is not appearing on Indeed. In most cases, the job has been flagged by Indeed due to a data discrepancy between the information available on the Career Site and the information received through the Indeed feed. Indeed will often suppress the posting until the discrepancy is resolved

Step 1: Verify the Job Exists on the Career Site
  1. Navigate to the Management Portal.
  2. Locate the appropriate Career Site Feed.

All Career Site feeds can be found in the Management Portal.

  1. Search for the job in the feed.
  2. Verify the job is:
    • Active
    • Published
    • Visible in the feed
  3. Verify the same job appears correctly on the public Career Site.

If the job is missing from the Career Site or the feed, resolve that issue before investigating Indeed.

Step 2: Review Common Data Discrepancies

Before requesting payloads from Engineering, check the most common reasons Indeed suppresses jobs.

Location

Verify:

  • City is correct
  • State is correct
  • ZIP/postal code is correct (if applicable)
  • Location formatting is consistent

Modality

Verify the job is correctly configured as:

  • Remote
  • Hybrid
  • Onsite

This is one of the most common causes of suppression.

Expiration Date

Verify:

  • The job has not expired
  • Expiration dates are valid
  • The posting should still be active

Job Status

Verify:

  • The job is open
  • The job is published
  • The job has not been archived or closed

Other Key Fields

Review:

  • Job title
  • Employment type
  • Department
  • Requisition number

If a discrepancy is identified, correct it and republish the job if necessary.

Step 3: Confirm the Job is Missing from Indeed
  1. Search for the job on Indeed.
  2. Verify the job is not present.
  3. Capture screenshots if needed.

Step 4: Obtain the Indeed Job ID
  1. Open the Indeed Tableau Report.
  2. Search for the job.
  3. Record the associated Indeed Job ID.

Step 5: Request the Indeed Payload

If no obvious discrepancy has been identified:

  1. Contact Hector.
  2. Provide the Indeed Job ID.
  3. Request the payload sent to the Indeed API.

Step 6: Compare the Payload to the Career Site

Compare the payload against the job data displayed on the Career Site.

Pay particular attention to:

  • Location
  • Modality (Remote/Hybrid/Onsite)
  • Job title
  • Employment type
  • Requisition number
  • Status
  • Expiration date

Look for any mismatch between:

  • What appears on the Career Site
  • What was sent to Indeed

These mismatches are the most common reason a job is suppressed by Indeed.

Step 7: Escalate if No Discrepancy Is Found

If:

  • The Career Site data is correct,
  • The payload matches the Career Site, and
  • The job is still missing from Indeed,

escalate the issue.

Indeed-Related Issues

Escalate to the Indeed Representative and include:

  • Job ID
  • Indeed Job ID
  • Career Site screenshots
  • Indeed screenshots
  • Payload comparison results
  • Summary of investigation findings

Source & Screen Issues

Escalate to RedDot and include:

  • Job ID
  • Indeed Job ID
  • Screenshots
  • Payload comparison results
  • Summary of findings

Quick Troubleshooting Flow
  1. Find the job in the Career Site Feed (Management Portal).
  2. Verify the job appears correctly on the Career Site.
  3. Check common suppression causes:
    • Location
    • Modality
    • Expiration Date
    • Status
    • Job Title
  4. Confirm the job is missing from Indeed.
  5. Locate the Indeed Job ID in Tableau.
  6. Request the payload from Hector.
  7. Compare the payload to the Career Site data.
  8. Identify and correct any discrepancies.
  9. Escalate to Indeed or RedDot if no discrepancy is found.

Rule of thumb: If a job is missing from Indeed, the first assumption should be that Indeed has detected a mismatch between the Career Site data and the feed data being sent to them. Check location, modality, status, and expiration before involving Engineering.
